Livelihood
The main target of the project will be to use vocational/ skills acquisition training, coaching, mentoring and other access to income generating activities to support livelihood stabilization and income recovery which will be targeting conflict-affected Adolescent youth and vulnerable women. The project will also provide employment opportunity and empowerment to beneficiaries in the selected LGAs of Borno state in the North east of Nigeria, thereby contributing directly to the SDG Objective (Support Livelihood Stabilization and income recovery).
The intended activity will basically be; to provide vocational skills training to the most vulnerable victims of the insurgency some selected IDP camps and host communities within Maiduguri/ Jere LGA of Borno State; thereby empowering the beneficiaries so that they can be independent and cater for immediate household needs. In vocational training: the vocational training response plan includes three flexible approaches that can be selected depending on the context. In the urban areas, we will identify the most vulnerable in all the IDP camps/ Host communities and get them enrolled into the vocational training Centre. The organization will now use the expertise of artisan to support the training of the conflict affected adolescents, young people and vulnerable women to undergo tailoring, leather work (making of belt, Shoe, Purse, bag, etc.), bead making, Tie/dye, cosmetology, paint making and catering. For rigorous employability training, especially in parallel technical training and apprenticeships, GSF will offer training and mentoring to enhance the ‘employability’ skills of adolescent girls/ boys and women to increase success. At the end of the training, GSF might empower all the beneficiaries with start-up kits/ machines so as to establish their small-scale enterprise of choice to make earnings and be able to find alternative livelihood income. Finally, implementing organization will use its appropriate tracking tool in monitoring the performance of beneficiaries and to also check for sustainability of their business.
